MDOT Prequalifications

  • Aggregate Testing

    LSE has the properly calibrated equipment and certified testers to provide mechanical analysis testing of sand and aggregate samples.
  • Bituminous Pavement Inspection

    LSE has qualified and experienced inspectors capable of sampling and inspecting bituminous (hot mix asphalt) pavement in accordance with MDOT and FHWA requirements.
  • Bridge Construction Engineering

    LSE has experienced engineers and inspectors capable of providing full construction engineering oversight of bridge construction projects in accordance with MDOT and FHWA requirements. This includes project documentation and testing associated with bridge construction or rehabilitation projects.
  • Bridge Load Rating Analysis

    LSE has experienced engineers and appropriate software to analyze various configurations of bridge loading (the capacity of a bridge).
  • Bridge Painting Inspection

    LSE inspection staff are experienced and have the necessary equipment to provide structural steel cleaning and coating inspection services. The equipment includes profilometers, dry film thickness gauges, psychrometers, and SSPC VIS 1 guideline booklets. Additionally, our inspection and engineering staff are trained regularly for lead safety.
  • Bridge Project Scoping

    LSE engineering staff are experienced in providing a field review, performing analysis on field and plan data, and determining repair or replacement options.
  • Bridge Safety Inspection

    LSE has a team of engineers certified as Qualified Team Leaders who are experienced in performing safety inspections of in-service bridges. These inspections are required at least bi-annually by the FHWA.
  • Capital Preventative Maintenance

    LSE engineering and inspection staff are experienced in designing and inspecting MDOT Capital Preventative Maintenance projects.
  • Density Inspection and Testing

    LSE inspectors are certified to perform material density tests using a nuclear density gauge. LSE possesses the required NRC and DOT licenses to operate and transport these gauges. Nuclear density testing is used to ensure roadway earthwork, pipe and structure backfill, and HMA pavement densities meet required specifications.
  • Engineering Assistance

    LSE engineering staff is experienced and qualified to provide professional engineering assistance to MDOT as needed.
  • Hydraulics

    LSE engineering staff are experienced in using HEC RAS software and other hydraulic analysis guidelines to analyze hydraulic flows in accordance with MDEQ and MDOT requirements.
  • Maintaining Traffic Plans & Provisions

    LSE staff are familiar with and experienced in using standard MDOT Maintaining Traffic Typicals, traffic guidelines, and standard construction practices in developing a fully executable set of plans and specifications relating to the maintenance of traffic through a construction work zone. This includes developing construction staging options, performing mobility analysis, and compiling bid item quantities for use with complex construction projects.
  • Pavement Marking Plans

    LSE is experienced in developing permanent pavement marking plans in accordance with MDOT standard pavement marking guidelines and current MDOT practices.
  • Permanent Non-Freeway Traffic Signing Plans

    LSE is experienced in developing permanent non-freeway signing plans in accordance with MDOT signing guidelines and practices. These plans can be either in a log format utilizing standard MDOT nomenclature and MDOT’s MTSIS signing inventory/upgrade software or in a plan sheet format. Additionally, LSE staff is experienced in developing specific sign details utilizing Sign CAD software in accordance with MDOT guidelines.
  • Portland Cement Inspection & Testing

    LSE inspectors are certified Level I concrete testers. These inspectors are certified to perform field tests of Portland Cement Concrete in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, or Acceptance roles on MDOT and federally-funded projects. Field tests include concrete temperature, entrained air content, and concrete slump in addition to proper sampling and molding of compression test specimens.
  • Road Construction Engineering

    LSE has experienced engineers and inspectors capable of providing full construction engineering oversight of road construction projects in accordance with MDOT and FHWA requirements. This includes project documentation and testing associated with road construction or rehabilitation projects.
  • Roads & Streets

    LSE engineering staff are experienced and qualified to design roadway construction or reconstruction projects in accordance with current MDOT, FHWA, and AASHTO requirements. As a standard our engineering staff use Bentley’s Microstation software in designing MDOT projects and AutoCAD in designing local government agency projects. Roadway design includes analyzing and designing associated storm sewer and utility facilities, guardrail and safety features, pavement design, roadway alignment, and associated specifications and quantity breakdowns.
  • Roadway Rehabilitation & Rural Freeways

    LSE engineering staff are experienced and qualified to design roadway construction or reconstruction projects in accordance with current MDOT, FHWA, and AASHTO requirements. As a standard our engineering staff use Bentley’s Microstation software in designing MDOT projects and AutoCAD in designing local government agency projects. Roadway design includes analyzing and designing associated storm sewer and utility facilities, guardrail and safety features, pavement design, roadway alignment, and associated specifications and quantity breakdowns.
  • Short & Medium Span Bridges

    LSE engineering staff are experienced in designing short and medium span bridges. This includes multi-span bridges with a total span of up to 300 feet. LSE engineering staff are experienced in utilizing a variety of design codes including Load Resistance Factor Design (LFRD - the current standard required by MDOT), Allowable Stress, and Load Factor. Our bridge designs include foundation analysis, associated soils analysis, and associated permit applications.

    LSE engineering staff is experienced and qualified to provide professional engineering assistance to MDOT as needed.
  • Traffic & Safety Inspection Services

    LSE engineering and inspection staff are experienced in and qualified to provide inspection services of construction work zones in accordance with MDOT standards.
