Carol Smith, P.E.

Principal Engineer

Carol, a Michigan Licensed Professional Engineer, has over 33 years of MDOT / Federal Aid Project design and construction oversight experience.  After receiving her BSCE from Lawrence Technological University in 1986, she worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) 11 years where she advanced to the position of Resident Engineer and oversaw various MDOT construction projects from their Greenville MI project field office and managed a staff of engineers and field technicians.

In 1998, Carol left MDOT and founded LS Engineering, Inc., providing similar project oversight, inspection and testing services to MDOT and local agencies.  In 2004 she purchased Scott Civil Engineering Company which expanded her services into bridge design and in-service bridge inspection.

Currently between these two firms, Carol manages a staff of engineers, certified inspectors, and technicians that provides services in construction engineering oversight, inspection and testing, project documentation training, design services, in-service bridge inspections and load ratings, claim or litigation support, and dispute resolution services to MDOT and local agencies.

Carol’s personal expertise is in project construction oversight, documentation, project reviews, claim and litigation support and Federal Aid funding.
