Susan McElheny, E.I.T.

Design Engineer

Susan was born and raised in the Grand Rapids area and graduated from MSU in 2006 with her bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, she moved to Charlotte, NC to do work in the power industry.  She spent her time working on nuclear power design and licensing, dam inspections and powerhouse design.  In 2011, Susan moved back to Michigan and began working in municipal design, construction inspection and structural design.  Prior to working with Scott Civil Engineering, Susan spent 6 years homeschooling 4 of her 5 children before deciding to get back into the engineering field.  She is excited to put her variety of experiences to work here at Scott Civil.

Outside of work, Susan loves to spend time outside in nature (kayaking, camping, and hiking) with her children.  Three of Susan’s children have been adopted from the foster care system here in Grand Rapids and that is an area she is very passionate about.  She has begun watercolor painting recently and loves to read historical fiction books.  She also spends a good deal of time studying the Bible and growing her walk with Jesus.
